Case Study O4 - Discussion Part 3 - Answer (Question 5)

What are alert values or alert situations and why are they especially important to staff in small facilities?

Alert values or alert situations include both life-threatening and non-life-threatening results or situations that merit prompt communication to the patient's physician and/or to the TM medical director/consultant. They are especially important to staff in small facilities because clinical and technical staff may have limited experience in dealing with critical values and alert values/situations.
