Case Study B7 - DAT Results - Answer (Question 5)

MFA describes the presence of both agglutinated and unagglutinated rbc in the presence of an antibody.

  • It suggests the presence of 2 cell populations, one of which reacts with the antibody and one of which does not.
  • MFA may be seen when typing a patient for ABO, Rh, and other antigens or when performing a DAT with antiglobulin serum.
