Why was phenotype matched blood crossmatched?

At the time, there was what appeared to be a pan-reactive autoantibody showing. Although this turned out to be an HTLA antibody, phenotype specific blood is a good idea when an antibody responder such as Mrs. J.S. has produced multiple antibodies to avoid production of another alloantibody.
