Case Study A2 - Answer (Question 1)

What could account for the DAT being negative when Mr. F.S. appears to be experiencing a delayed hemolytic transfusion reaction?

The DAT is probably negative because all of the transfused donor red cells have been destroyed by the patient's alloantibody(ies) at the time of testing.
